Scantinel Photonics GmbH, a portfolio start-up of ZEISS Ventures, announces Series A funding round via Scania Growth Capital as lead investor
ULM, Germany – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Scantinel, a leading LiDAR start-up, which develops and produces FMCW LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors for next-generation LiDAR systems for autonomous vehicles (AV) received growth funding through Scania Growth Capital .
LiDAR is considered the key technology for the safety of autonomous vehicles. Continuous Frequency Modulated Wave (FMCW) LiDAR – a bulky abbreviation for disruptive technology – will help autonomous driving achieve a breakthrough and, according to experts, will replace current light-time LiDAR (TOF) systems on the market.
“The LiDAR market is consolidating further and it is becoming increasingly clear which technologies and startups will eventually reach mass production. At ZEISS, we are proud that Scantinel is among those who succeed in attracting new investors ”, explains Gerrit Schulte, Head of ZEISS Ventures.
Scantinel offers unique LiDAR FMCW technology that offers a new dimension of data to make cars safer and, eventually, self-sufficient. This new technology makes it possible to measure distances to objects over 300 meters with a high level of integration, solid-state scanning and competitive prices, which is essential for autonomous vehicles.
“We see a great advantage in having Scania’s venture capital fund as an investor and we are happy to welcome Scania Growth Capital on board to support us in our progress,” says Andy Zott, Technical Director and Co- founder of Scantinel.
With this Series A funding, Scantinel will be able to develop and commercialize its state-of-the-art LiDAR FMCW technology. “The investment from Scania Growth Capital allows us to commercially implement this technology in close cooperation with our customers and technology partners,” says Scantinel Chief Commercial Officer Dr Michael Richter.
“The future safety of autonomous vehicles relies on LiDAR FMCW sensor technology. We see Scantinel Photonics as the technology leader in its field and we are delighted to be part of the growth journey, ”says Christian Zeuchner, partner of the management company Scania Growth Capital.
